The Resident Doctors Association of the Federal Capital Territory Administration has issued a strong warning to the FCT Minister regarding unresolved demands. They have threatened a potential shutdown of hospitals within 14 days if their issues are not addressed promptly.
During a press conference in Abuja, the President of ARD-FCTA highlighted the need for urgent attention to doctors’ welfare, citing economic challenges that have put them in a precarious position. While acknowledging the minister’s efforts in infrastructure development, the association emphasized the critical state of doctors’ livelihoods.
The demands put forth by the association include the clearance of salary arrears, payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund, review of bonding policies, issuance of skipping allowances, hazard allowance arrears, and other crucial matters related to healthcare workers’ well-being.
The association emphasized the importance of resolving these issues promptly to prevent a potential collapse of the nation’s health sector. They initially gave a 21-day ultimatum during their Annual General Meeting, which now leaves a 14-day window for necessary actions to be taken.
The association stressed that while they do not wish for a shutdown, it may become unavoidable if their demands are not met. Urgent action is required from the minister to prevent any detrimental impact on the nation’s healthcare system.
