The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has said that the Federal Government has approved ₦19 billion for the resumption of construction work on the Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road project abandoned over three years ago.
Barau disclosed this on his verified Facebook page on Friday.
He stated that the approval aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises the delivery of quality infrastructure with direct impact on communities across the country.
Barau explained that the approval followed his meeting with the Deputy Managing Director of CGC Nigeria Limited, Lv Haiming, in Abuja, where final issues surrounding the stalled project were resolved.
He said, “I am pleased to announce that all arrangements have now been finalised, and the sum of ₦19 billion has been approved and awarded for the execution of the Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road project.”
He noted that construction work on the road, which had earlier slowed down, would soon resume, adding that the contractor has been fully mobilised to return to the site.
Barau described the Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road as a critical infrastructure linking several communities in Kano State and neighbouring areas, stressing that its completion would significantly improve movement and accessibility.
“The road is a vital link that will enhance connectivity, boost economic activities, and improve the well-being of our people,” he said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Tinubu administration to ensure that key projects that affect citizens’ lives are completed on schedule, assuring residents of the area that the federal government remains committed to their development.
Recall that the federal government, on Thursday, 11th June, 2021, flagged off the construction of a dual carriageway from Kano to Dayi town in Katsina state, awarded at the cost of N62.7bn, but regrettably, the work had stopped over three years ago.
The Single Road Kano-Gwarzo-Dayi road, which was to be reconstructed into a dual carriageway with a total length of about 100 km, was awarded by the federal government to ease transportation within the axis and enhance the movement of farm products from rural areas to various markets across the neighbouring states.
The affected communities had threatened to storm the National Assembly following the failure of the then federal government under the former President Muhammadu Buhari to release funds for the completion of the road.
