FG approves N734bn for Oyo-Ogbomoso Road, three others

The approval of N733.89bn by the Federal Government for the dualisation of the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road in Oyo State was announced by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, after the 24th Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja. The dualisation project covers the 147km stretch of the Ibadan-Ilorin Road, Section Two, and will be constructed with reinforced concrete pavement. Other projects approved include the dualisation of the Odupani-Itu-Idedem Item-Ikot Ekpene Road in Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, the completion of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road Section Two, and the construction of a flyover at Abakpa. Minister Umahi clarified the project details and addressed concerns about regional disparities in project allocation. He emphasized that project approvals are based on submitted memos and processing timelines rather than deliberate favoritism.

Furthermore, the Federal Executive Council approved a ₦1.09bn insurance package to cover critical assets and personnel at federal airports nationwide. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, highlighted the significance of the insurance approval in aligning with a directive from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to insure critical government assets. Keyamo emphasized the importance of protecting airport assets and personnel through the new insurance scheme, ensuring compliance with global labor practices and International Civil Aviation Organization certification requirements. The insurance contract, which includes 7.5% VAT, will be executed over a year with five selected Nigerian insurance firms handling the coverage. Leadway Assurance Company Ltd. will serve as the lead underwriter, supported by four co-underwriters.
