FG plans to lower airfares, enhance airport security

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, recently shared updates on the Federal Government’s efforts to address the expensive airfare issue in Nigeria. Key factors contributing to high ticket prices were outlined, including challenges faced by Nigerian airlines in accessing affordable aircraft leasing and trapped funds of foreign airlines. Keyamo also highlighted improvements in airport safety and security measures, particularly at key international entry points like Abuja and Lagos airports. The government has been working to clear the backlog of trapped funds, which has led to inflated ticket prices for Nigerian passengers by international airlines. Efforts are underway to engage with airlines to adjust pricing and address high taxes imposed at Nigerian airports, ultimately aiming to make air travel more affordable for Nigerian passengers.
