The government has restated its dedication to enhancing rural electrification by providing sustainable energy solutions. The Rural Electrification Agency’s Managing Director, Abba Aliyu, emphasized this during the launch of a 100kWp Solar Hybrid Mini Grid in the Uhuafor Nomeh community in Nkanu East Council Area of Enugu State. Aliyu highlighted that the project, implemented by the agency through the Rural Electrification Fund, aligns with efforts to boost rural electrification and can power multiple communities in Nomeh.
The solar project aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and collaborative efforts with state governments to expand energy access nationwide. The initiative supports President Bola Tinubu’s focus on the power sector. The Rural Electrification Fund has facilitated the installation of over 50 solar mini-grids, providing clean energy to numerous Nigerians. The agency has been inaugurating projects to extend energy access, showcasing the government’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
The inauguration at Nomeh highlights the importance of promoting safe energy practices to combat climate change. The project is expected to drive social and economic progress in the community, benefiting over 3,000 residents. Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah commended the initiative for bringing light and hope to rural areas, emphasizing the importance of sustainable energy solutions in fostering development.
The project overview detailed the system’s components, including solar panels, inverters, and battery banks, ensuring efficient energy production and storage. Real-time monitoring capabilities allow for performance assessment, with an estimated service capacity of 10,000 residents. The Traditional Ruler of Nomeh Untaeze expressed gratitude for the project, emphasizing the positive impact of electricity on daily activities and community development.
Overall, the initiative represents a significant step towards improving energy access and driving socio-economic development in rural communities.
