FG seeks EU support to boost science, technology

The Nigerian government is seeking to enhance collaboration with the European Union to bolster the country’s Science, Technology, and Innovation policies and coordination mechanisms. The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, emphasized the importance of EU technical assistance for various initiatives, including conducting surveys and implementing technology foresight programs. The minister also highlighted the need for increased technology transfer and commercialization to translate research findings into practical industrial applications. Additionally, there was a call for EU partnerships to establish Innovation Hubs across Nigeria to support start-ups and research-driven entrepreneurship. Nigeria expressed interest in collaborating with the EU on renewable energy projects, such as Green Hydrogen and Green Methanol initiatives, in alignment with global efforts for carbon reduction and energy transition. The existing bilateral agreement between Nigeria and the EU on Science, Technology, and Innovation was also emphasized as a framework for cooperation to promote joint research, knowledge-sharing, and investment in priority technological areas. Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to advancing scientific and technological ambitions through close cooperation with the EU.
