A collaboration between the Federal Government and the United States aims to improve skills in the transportation sector to boost efficiency and economic growth.

The partnership was discussed in a meeting between the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and the Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency in Abuja.

Emphasizing the importance of targeted investment in training programs, there is a drive to equip Nigerians with technical expertise to enhance productivity in the transport sector, aligning with efforts to transform Nigeria’s economy.

The focus is on skill development to improve efficiency in transportation and achieve economic goals, with a call for collaboration with organizations like the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria in research and training.

Concerns were raised about environmental challenges due to transport-related pollution, stressing the need for sustainable practices to enhance air quality and public health through collaboration efforts.

Efforts are being made to leverage the expertise of the Nigerian diaspora in infrastructure and economic development, with a focus on knowledge and skill transfer and potential collaboration with Nigerian tertiary institutions for advanced training programs.

The aim is to invest in Nigerian states with sectors that complement California’s strengths in technology, energy, and green jobs to foster stronger ties between the two regions.

Training programs are considered crucial for building local capacity to drive climate action among youth, focusing on equipping Master’s and PhD students with skills to address Nigeria’s transport challenges.

The California State Transportation Agency, responsible for developing transportation policies for safe and sustainable mobility, is keen on collaboration and investment opportunities in Nigeria.
