FG, WEMA Bank partner to empower 500,000 women

The Ministry of Women Affairs has joined forces with WEMA Bank PLC to empower 500,000 women in all six geo-political regions of Nigeria. The collaboration aims to combat poverty, unemployment, and inequality. This initiative is aligned with the “Renewed Hope Agenda” spearheaded by President Bola Tinubu, which emphasizes skill development, agriculture, and financial support.

The Minister of Women Affairs highlighted the significance of economically empowering women to boost national development, considering their substantial presence in Nigeria’s population. She emphasized the pivotal role women play in addressing societal issues like early marriages, domestic violence, and poverty.

The Ministry is dedicated to providing a conducive environment for women’s empowerment, particularly at the grassroots level, by promoting activities such as farming, food processing, and tailoring. This approach is expected to reduce dropout rates, gender-based violence, and early marriages, enabling women to generate income, support their families, and contribute to the nation’s progress.

WEMA Bank, led by Managing Director Moruf Oseni, has committed to supporting women-centric programs as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility. The bank is exploring avenues for collaboration with the Ministry to enhance women’s economic status through initiatives like the MOWA-SARA accelerator program. The bank’s focus on women’s empowerment aligns with its CSR objectives, aiming to uplift Nigerian women economically.
