The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has cautioned against a phony list of ambassadorial candidates circulating on social media. The ministry clarified in a statement that the appointment of ambassadors is solely the President’s prerogative, and no such appointments have been made. The public is advised to disregard the false list currently circulating on social media platforms.
Nigeria has a total of 109 missions globally, comprising 76 embassies, 22 high commissions, and 11 consulates. President Bola Tinubu recently recalled all career and non-career ambassadors serving in the country’s diplomatic missions, embassies, and consulates worldwide. The envoys have been instructed to return to Nigeria by October 31, 2023.
The recall includes 41 non-career ambassadors and 42 career ambassadors appointed by Former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2020. However, despite the lapse of over a year, new ambassadors are yet to be appointed and deployed to various countries.
