Fire service blames bush burning as multiple outbreaks hit Anambra

A series of fire incidents caused destruction to goods and property in different areas of Anambra State over the span of a few days. The first outbreak was recorded at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, followed by a fire at a residential building in Onitsha, and another at a building in Awka. The Anambra State Fire Service confirmed the incidents, attributing them to negligence and weather conditions.

The fire at UNIZIK was linked to bush burning and mishandling of fire, but luckily, no casualties were reported. Prompt response from firefighters prevented the fire from spreading further. Similarly, fires at other locations were swiftly contained by the state’s firefighting team.

In a statement, the state fire service urged residents to be cautious, especially during the harmattan season when fires can easily spread. They emphasized the importance of clearing bushes safely to prevent such incidents.
