The Edo State Police Command recently announced the arrest of six suspected kidnappers along with cash believed to be linked to their criminal activities. Additionally, arms and ammunition were seized from the suspects in the past 48 hours. These arrests and seizures took place in areas of Edo North that have been plagued by violent kidnappings and killings over the past three weeks.
During one operation, three suspects were intercepted and apprehended by the Agbede Police Division and vigilante personnel. Items recovered from them included a Beretta pistol, a dagger, and a mobile phone. Investigations revealed their involvement in various criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and motorcycle theft in the region.
In another incident, operatives from the Auchi Division, in collaboration with vigilantes, apprehended a suspect who was found in possession of a significant amount of cash suspected to be from kidnapping activities. Further investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, one of whom was identified by a victim as part of a gang that kidnapped him and a family member, demanding a ransom of N10m for their release.
The Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, emphasized the commitment of the police command to safeguarding lives and property and ensuring that those responsible for criminal acts are brought to justice.
