Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, expressed President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to the well-being and advancement of all children, regardless of their circumstances. She reiterated this commitment while inaugurating the new Nana Berry Orphanage and Children’s Home in Nasarawa State. The project resonates with Tinubu’s vision of viewing children as crucial components of national progress.
The First Lady acknowledged that she became aware of the challenges faced by the children at Nana Berry Orphanage and Children’s Home through an interview with its founder, Mrs. Aishatu Kwalmi, on NTA in early 2023. Touched by their situation, she took immediate action to support the orphanage, providing essential supplies and organizing events like the State House Christmas Party for the children.
Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the importance of sustainable interventions to create a safe and nurturing environment for the children. She lauded the caregivers at the home for their dedication and encouraged them to continue offering love and guidance to the children.
During the event, the First Lady declined a request for land for farming at the orphanage, suggesting alternative methods like smart farming techniques using buckets and old tires due to the sufficient land available. She also commended the Nasarawa State Government for donating the land and ensuring proper documentation.
The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, praised Mrs. Tinubu and her Renewed Hope Initiative for their commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals. He assured ongoing government support for the orphanage to maintain its standards and principles.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, highlighted that the orphanage was constructed under her office’s supervision. The facility can accommodate both boys and girls and is designed to provide a conducive environment for learning and overall development.
The inauguration event was a collaborative effort to improve the lives of vulnerable children, showcasing the power of unity and compassion in society.
