A duplex building in Ilorin, Kwara State capital, was set on fire by a five-year-old boy playing with matches. The incident occurred at Abiodun Adebiyi close, off Yidi Road, Irewole area Ilorin, causing damage to one room before the state fire service intervened. An eyewitness, Lanre Abdulrazaq, described seeing thick smoke emanating from the building, prompting a rescue operation.
The spokesperson for the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, confirmed that the fire was ignited by the young boy accidentally dropping a lit match on a flammable material. The firefighters swiftly responded to the distress call, containing the flames to one room in the duplex. Director Prince Falade John praised the team for their quick and effective action, emphasizing the importance of fire safety and keeping matches away from children to prevent such incidents. Adekunle reiterated the state fire service’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property with prompt emergency responses and professional conduct.
