Food security: Ogun supports 8,755 farmers with inputs, equipment

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security in Ogun State announced that the state government has allocated ₦498 million to support smallholder farmers through the OGUN-CARES FADAMA project. This funding will provide farm inputs, assets, and infrastructure to 8,755 farmers. The distribution of various farm inputs like fertilizers, herbicides, irrigation pumps, and cassava processing equipment has begun to prepare for the planting season and promote dry-season farming.

In addition to the distribution of farm inputs, livestock farmers will receive support in the form of day-old chicks, starter mash, juvenile fish, fish feed, pig weaners, and goat growers. The government is also focusing on improving hygiene and transportation by rehabilitating wet markets, providing potable water, and working on rural roads.

The initiative across the 20 local government areas of the state demonstrates the administration’s dedication to enhancing farming activities and productivity. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security encouraged beneficiaries to maximize the resources provided and involve their children in farming activities.

The distribution exercise aims to equip farmers with the necessary tools for the planting season, with assurances of year-round water availability for irrigation. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the government’s support and pledged to use the resources effectively.
