The manager of Nottingham Forest, Nuno Espirito Santo, expressed his confidence in Taiwo Awoniyi and is hopeful that the Nigerian striker will perform well upon his return from international duty with Nigeria.
Initially a regular starter, Awoniyi has faced a decline in his position within the team, with other strikers like Chris Wood, Jota Silva, Anthony Elanga, and Eric da Silva Moreira being preferred.
Awoniyi has had limited playing time this season compared to his previous successful season with the club, where he was a significant goal scorer despite battling injuries.
In a recent match against Newcastle, Awoniyi struggled to make an impact and missed a crucial penalty kick during a shootout.
Nuno is optimistic about Awoniyi’s return and believes that gaining more playing time will benefit the striker and the team.
Despite facing injury challenges in the past, Nuno is focused on managing Awoniyi effectively and helping him reach his full potential this season.
Awoniyi has been called up for international duty with the Super Eagles, indicating continued recognition despite his current struggles with form and playing time.
