The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced new strategies to address Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) by transitioning from motor park rallies to community-based initiatives nationwide. The Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, highlighted this shift in approach to road safety campaigns. Instead of solely relying on motor park rallies, the Corps will now focus on town hall meetings, press conferences, and other alternative methods to engage with drivers and the public effectively.
Ogungbemide explained that the traditional motor park rally method has become less effective due to increasing cases of driver lawlessness and road traffic fatalities. To adapt to these challenges, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, approved the use of new communication strategies such as town hall meetings and press conferences to convey road safety messages to target groups. This shift aims to address the rising incidents of road traffic crashes across the country.
Moving forward, the FRSC will utilize town hall meetings, press conferences, and other community settings to engage with stakeholders and raise public awareness about road safety. This approach seeks to involve a wider audience, including members of religious institutions and socio-cultural organizations, to promote road safety consciousness and prevent the social and economic losses associated with road traffic crashes.
Ogungbemide urged the public to support these new campaign methods and emphasized the importance of collective participation in creating a safer road environment. The FRSC, as the primary agency responsible for road traffic management and safety, is committed to using various strategies to prevent road accidents and ensure road safety for all.
