The Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State is keen on collaborating with the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers to address the issue of tanker accidents in the state. The Sector Commander emphasized the importance of working together to tackle this pressing issue during a meeting with NUPENG executives. They discussed the necessity of establishing truck parks in line with international road traffic regulations.
The Sector Public Education Officer mentioned that the FRSC is open to partnering with NUPENG to find lasting solutions to tanker accidents and related fatalities. The sector commander also encouraged private truck owners to register their vehicles and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Additionally, they requested NUPENG to organize monthly public enlightenment sessions for their drivers.
A key concern highlighted by NUPENG was the poor road conditions contributing to tanker accidents. They called on the government to prioritize road improvements and asked the FRSC to advocate for designated truck parks to promote driver rest and discourage night travel.
Plans were made for a Town Hall meeting involving tanker and truck operators to further discuss tanker-related incidents. Both the FRSC and NUPENG affirmed their commitment to enhancing road safety and reducing tanker accidents in Anambra State.
