Fubara: Rivers assembly blockade provocative, insulting – Ex-PANDEF spokesman

An esteemed elder and member of the Rivers State Elders and Leaders Forum has strongly criticized the recent actions of lawmakers at the Rivers State House of Assembly for preventing Governor Siminalayi Fubara from entering the State Assembly Complex. The elder, speaking in Port Harcourt, expressed his disapproval of the lawmakers’ behavior, labeling it as provocative and disrespectful to the people of Rivers State.

The elder emphasized that the governor, as the elected leader representing millions of Rivers people, should have unimpeded access to all state facilities, including the Assembly Complex. Blocking his entry, according to the elder, is not merely an insult to the governor but a direct affront to the entire populace of Rivers state.

Furthermore, the elder urged the governor to uphold all decisions mandated by the Supreme Court verdict, despite personal disagreements with some of the rulings. He stressed the importance of peaceful resolutions, highlighting the governor’s willingness to pursue peace even in the face of opposition from the lawmakers.

Regarding comments made by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, insinuating the possibility of impeaching Fubara without significant consequences, the elder reminded that derogatory remarks towards the Ijaw people could exacerbate the existing political tension in the state. He cautioned against inflammatory statements that could jeopardize the nation’s economy, particularly in the context of crude oil production, emphasizing the need for all parties involved to prioritize peaceful dialogue and thoughtful communication.
