The head coach of Atalanta, Gian Piero Gasperini, acknowledged the significant role played by Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman in the team’s strong start to the season. Despite Lookman not featuring in their recent 6-1 victory over Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League, Gasperini praised the player’s contributions last season for laying the groundwork for their current success.
Gasperini expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance and results, attributing their confidence and progress to winning the Europa League last season. He emphasized the impact of players like Lookman in setting the tone for Atalanta’s current form.
Lookman played a crucial role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph, notably scoring a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. This performance not only handed Bayer Leverkusen their only defeat of the season but also established Lookman as a prolific forward in European football.
Gasperini highlighted the strong team spirit at Atalanta, emphasizing the values upheld by players like Lookman. The Nigerian forward’s impressive form since joining the club has attracted interest from top clubs such as Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid.
Lookman’s exceptional statistics this season, with nine goals and five assists in 15 appearances, have reportedly increased his market value to over £60m. As Atalanta prepares for upcoming matches against AS Roma, AC Milan, and Real Madrid, Lookman’s influence both on and off the field continues to be felt, solidifying Atalanta’s reputation as a strong contender in domestic and European competitions.
