Government must take sports dev seriously – Igali

The head of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation recently urged the government to prioritize sports development in light of Team Nigeria’s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, which was deemed unsatisfactory. The champion highlighted concerns over the haphazard approach to tournaments, stating that it hinders sports progress nationwide.

Emphasizing the significance of age-grade competitions for international success, he underscored the importance of tackling age falsification to maintain the integrity of youth events.

He stressed the necessity for a more proactive stance towards sports development, urging the government to make substantial efforts in this regard.

While acknowledging the Delta State Government’s role in hosting the Youth Games, he expressed disappointment over instances of age fraud in the competition, labeling it as one of the nation’s crucial events.

The NWF leader disapproved of the win-at-all-costs mentality in some states, calling for a more inclusive approach that supports grassroots sports development at every level.

He also pledged continued involvement in the Wrestling Federation’s growth post his tenure, ensuring his ongoing contribution to its progress.
