The Association of West African Exporters and Maritime Professionals is advocating for policies that limit the involvement of foreigners in Nigeria’s local businesses. This concern was raised by the association’s president during its annual summit in Lagos. The event, attended by key stakeholders in the export and maritime industry, focused on discussing challenges faced by the sector. The association acknowledged the support of government agencies in addressing these issues.
During the summit, the association’s secretary highlighted the challenges faced by exporters, particularly the increasing competition from foreigners in Nigeria’s local sourcing and logistics sectors. This trend has led to the displacement of skilled maritime workers and increased unemployment among Nigerian youth.
The Nigerian Customs Comptroller of the Lilypond Export Command reiterated the organization’s commitment to facilitating smooth export operations in line with the government’s vision for trade and economic growth.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony honoring the Nigerian Customs, Federal Produce Inspectorate, and other agencies for their contributions to the export industry. Notable individuals and agencies present included the Nigerian Ports Authority General Operations Manager and representatives from the NDLEA Export Command and Federal Produce Inspectorate.
