27-year-old individual from Osogbo has achieved a remarkable feat by reading aloud for 215 hours, officially recognized by Guinness World Records. This achievement earned the title for the “longest marathon reading aloud” and is considered one of the longest marathon record attempts in GWR history. The individual covered a wide range of topics by reading over 100 books including finance, sales, management, leadership, politics, health, and mental wellness.
This accomplishment surpasses the previous record of 124 hours set in 2022. To break this record, participants are required to read continuously from published works with no more than a 30-second pause between items being read.
This record-breaking endeavor was witnessed by notable figures such as Osun State House of Assembly Speaker and the Education Commissioner. This achievement now joins the rich history of marathon reading records dating back to 1987, surpassing previous record holders.
The individual undertook this challenge with the aim of promoting literacy development and fostering a culture of reading in Nigeria. This feat is not only the world’s longest marathon reading aloud but also one of the longest marathon record attempts in Guinness World Records history.
