Hyena kills five-year-old in Kenya

A tragic incident occurred in Kenya where a hyena attacked and killed a five-year-old child in Juja, Kiambu County. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) expressed deep regret over the loss and mentioned that efforts are being intensified to address the increasing hyena attacks in the area. Following a similar incident, the KWS has relocated around 38 hyenas since August 8. This incident is not isolated, as reports of wildlife encroaching on human habitats have been on the rise in Kenya due to urban expansion into their traditional territories. In a separate event in December 2021, hyenas killed two individuals in a village near Nairobi. The KWS is taking measures to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts and enhance safety in the region.
