The governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, shared how his steadfast faith in God led him to win the governorship seat instead of resorting to superstitious practices.
During the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area annual day of thanksgiving in Sampou, his community, the governor recounted an incident from 2020. He mentioned being advised by a senior Nigerian figure in Abuja to perform certain rituals to secure the governorship. Despite the pressure, he declined the offer as he was already challenging the election results in court.
The governor revealed that the senior citizen brought marabouts from Senegal to perform the rituals, and upon his refusal, demanded reimbursement for their expenses. Senator Diri ended up paying $10,000 to settle the matter.
He emphasized that his unwavering trust in God guided his decision to reject external assistance, and ultimately, his faith was rewarded when the Supreme Court ruled in his favor, solidifying his position as governor.
He concluded by mentioning that the senior citizen, who was left stunned by the outcome, later passed away. The governor added that his deputy and a friend were witnesses to the entire incident in Abuja.
