A new addition to the Super Eagles team, Igho Ogbu, recently shared his decision to decline an offer to play for Norway in order to pursue his dream of representing Nigeria in international football.
Ogbu, who previously played for the Flying Eagles in 2019, had the opportunity to play for Norway during his time with Lillestrøm in 2018 before eventually moving to Slavia Prague in the Czech Republic for a significant fee.
The defender expressed that his choice to turn down Norway was deeply influenced by personal reasons, particularly honoring his late father’s wishes.
His commitment to playing for Nigeria paid off this year when he was selected by coach Eric Chelle to join the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Ogbu, who scored a goal in a recent match for Slavia Prague, received praise from his coach for his defensive skills and unexpected offensive contributions.
