The Enugu police department has issued a statement cautioning the public against a misleading audio and image circulating on social media. The audio falsely portrays the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, sharing supposed “new communication rules for WhatsApp chats and calls.” The police have clarified that this audio is not an official communication from the command and have initiated an investigation to identify the individuals behind it.
The police spokesperson emphasized that WhatsApp, a reputable international organization owned by Meta, would not utilize third-party sources to announce changes to its services. The Commissioner of Police has directed an intelligence-led investigation to uncover and prosecute those responsible for creating and spreading the misleading audio.
Concerns were raised by the Commissioner of Police regarding the misuse of his image to disseminate false information. The public is urged to disregard the misleading audio and images being shared.
