INEC cautions journalists against fake news

With three weeks left before the governorship election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission is advising journalists to be cautious about sharing unverified news. The commission emphasized the importance of accurate reporting during the upcoming November 16 election.

During a media workshop in Akure, the state capital, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information And Voter Education Committee of INEC, highlighted the need for journalists to verify information before dissemination. The commission assured journalists of safety measures in collaboration with security agencies.

Journalists were urged to provide balanced and objective coverage of all political parties and candidates, promoting peaceful participation among the public. The workshop aimed to equip journalists with the necessary information on election guidelines and procedures to ensure accurate reporting and prevent the spread of misinformation.
