The Independent National Electoral Commission has reinstated Olorunfemi Festus as the Labour Party’s candidate for today’s governorship election in Ondo State, following a ruling by the Court of Appeal.
INEC made this announcement on Friday.
This decision was prompted by the Court of Appeal in Abuja overturning a previous judgment by the Federal High Court. The Federal High Court had ordered INEC to accept Olusola Ebiseni as the LP’s candidate on September 27, 2024.
In its ruling referenced as CA/ABJ/CV/1172/2024, the appellate court stated that the lower court did not have the jurisdiction to make such a ruling.
Following the court’s ruling, INEC updated its records and reinstated Festus as the official LP candidate. His information is now available on the commission’s website for public access.
“The Commission received the Certified True Copy of the court’s judgment, which overturned the Federal High Court’s decision. In compliance with the court order, Olorunfemi Ayodele Festus has been reinstated as the Labour Party candidate for the 2024 Ondo State Governorship election,” the commission clarified.
