The Speaker of the House of Representatives recently highlighted the pressing need for Nigeria to invest approximately $3 trillion in the next three decades to address the infrastructure gap. Critical areas requiring investment include road networks, power supply, housing, healthcare, and education.
During a ceremony in Abuja marking the commencement of an access road construction project, the Deputy Speaker emphasized the infrastructure deficit in the Federal Capital Territory, exacerbated by a five per cent annual population growth rate. This growth puts strain on existing facilities and underscores the necessity for additional access roads, housing, and essential services to meet the demands of residents.
Acknowledging the infrastructure challenges, the Speaker praised the efforts of the government, particularly President Bola Tinubu, in addressing these issues since taking office. He pledged legislative support to facilitate infrastructure development in the FCT, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the National Assembly and the executive branch.
Furthermore, the Speaker commended FCT Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike for his urban renewal initiatives, which aim to enhance the city’s infrastructure. Projects such as road construction and urban renewal programs reflect a commitment to making Abuja a world-class city, with a focus on functionality and efficiency.
The ongoing efforts, including the construction of access roads and other projects, are expected to bring tangible benefits to residents and visitors, contributing to the overall development and enhancement of the FCT.
