The concerns over the impact of insecurity in the North-East on food sufficiency were raised by the Director of Research at the Centre for Population and Environmental Development. Dr. Johnson Dudu mentioned that due to the security situation, many women farmers now require escorts to access their farms. These remarks were made during a women empowerment program in Nigeria’s Sahel region.
Dr. Dudu stressed the importance of security for women in farming activities to prevent risks to food production. He called for an enhanced security framework in the region, particularly in states like Gombe, Bauchi, and the North-East, to ensure food sufficiency.
The Centre for Population and Environmental Development is dedicated to evidence-based development and collaborates with policymakers to achieve progress. Dr. Dudu emphasized the organization’s commitment to sustainable development through initiatives like empowering women in agriculture.
Professor Muhammad Bibi, who also spoke at the event, highlighted the workshop’s goals of studying challenges, offering solutions, and effectively communicating the outcomes.
