The Indigenous People of Biafra has expressed a strong message urging individuals and politicians in the South-East region to use the allocated ₦250 billion for the newly established South East Development Commission solely for the region’s development. The group emphasized the urgent need for various projects such as road construction, healthcare facility improvements, and power plant installations to enhance the region’s progress.
IPOB insists that the funds should not be shared among individuals but instead channeled into developmental projects for the benefit of the South-East. They highlighted the importance of initiatives like infrastructure rehabilitation, road expansion, healthcare facility upgrades, and power plant construction to ensure a stable electricity supply. Additionally, they called for the establishment of free trade zones, industrial parks, and the development of seaports and airports to create employment opportunities and boost economic growth.
The group cautioned against any misappropriation of the funds and stressed the need for transparency and accountability in utilizing the money for the overall development of the South-East region. They warned against diversion of funds for personal gain and emphasized the importance of equal distribution of resources across all states and communities in the region.
IPOB made it clear that they would monitor the progress of the South East Development Commission and hold key figures like Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Dr Benjamin Kalu, and Dr Emeka Nworgu accountable for the success or failure of the commission. They concluded by reaffirming their commitment to ensuring that the allocated funds are used effectively for the advancement of the South-East region.
