A recent court filing revealed that a woman who had accused hip-hop artists Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jay-Z of sexual assault when she was 13 has decided to drop her civil lawsuit. The lawsuit, which was filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be brought back to court.
The accuser’s identity remains undisclosed, and it is uncertain if a settlement was reached between the woman and the two artists. Jay-Z, also known as Shawn Carter, expressed relief at the lawsuit’s closure, denouncing it as baseless and outrageous. He emphasized the toll the false accusations had taken on him, his family, and loved ones.
The complaint alleged that Combs and Carter, who is married to singer Beyonce, were involved in assaulting the plaintiff at a party while others present did nothing to intervene. Combs is facing separate charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, with federal prosecutors accusing him of coercing women into drug-fueled sex parties using threats and violence. Combs has denied all charges, and his criminal trial is scheduled to commence on May 5.
