A prominent boxer has exceeded $200 million in total earnings throughout his career, establishing himself as one of the highest-paid athletes in boxing. This achievement places him ahead of notable figures like Tyson Fury and Gervonta Davis.
In 2024 alone, the former two-time heavyweight champion earned a substantial $75 million from his fights, ranking second in annual earnings behind Canelo Alvarez. Despite matching his fight earnings, Alvarez slightly surpassed him in overall income by $2 million.
Fury, aged 36, earned $50 million in 2024, bringing his career earnings to $150 million, a significant difference compared to the impressive earnings of the aforementioned boxer.
On the other hand, Davis, aged 30, has garnered $50 million since turning professional, with recent fights against Ryan Garcia and Frank Martin contributing close to $20 million to his wealth. Garcia has also emerged as a popular pay-per-view attraction, accumulating over $40 million in total earnings.
The financial success of the boxer began notably with a lucrative rematch in Saudi Arabia against Andy Ruiz Jr., where he earned $65 million. Subsequent bouts against Oleksandr Usyk added over $40 million to his earnings from the first two encounters.
Additionally, a high-profile bout with Francis Ngannou last year contributed $50 million to his earnings. Other significant paydays include consecutive $12 million purses from fights against Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius, along with similar earnings from captivating performances at Wembley and the Principality Stadium.
Currently recovering from injuries after a recent defeat to Daniel Dubois, the 35-year-old boxer is aiming for a potential match with Fury. He is waiting for the outcome of Usyk vs. Fury 2 before deciding on his next steps.
With one fight left on his Riyadh Season contract, there are expectations of a lucrative offer for an all-British showdown. Joshua’s promoter has indicated that he will not return to the ring until at least May 2024, ruling out an immediate rematch with IBF world heavyweight champion Dubois.
Speaking to Boxing News, the promoter emphasized the importance of ensuring the boxer is fully prepared for his comeback, highlighting the need for absolute physical and mental readiness.
