In an unfortunate incident, a councilorship candidate, Adeyinka Adeleke, was tragically killed by suspected gunmen in the Jide Jones area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State. The victim, who was the All Progressives Congress Councillorship candidate for Abeokuta South Local Government Ward 15, fell victim to the assailants who arrived in a tinted car and opened fire indiscriminately.
Reports indicate that the gunmen launched a fatal attack on Adeleke, leaving him in a pool of blood. A distressing video circulating online depicts the lifeless body of Adeleke, accompanied by the sounds of mourners in the background. The incident sparked fear and tension in the area, leading residents to seek refuge from the violence.
Eyewitnesses described how the gunmen mercilessly targeted Adeleke, with one of them shooting him at close range and subsequently inflicting further harm to ensure his demise. Adeleke, who worked in the transport union sector in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, was a well-known figure in the community. The sudden and brutal nature of his death has left locals in shock and sorrow.
Authorities, including a senior police officer, have confirmed the tragic event, noting that the family has since taken Adeleke’s body for burial. Despite attempts to reach the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer for comment, there has been no response at the time of reporting.
