The Lagos State Government has issued a warning about a potential building collapse at Mopol 20 Barracks in the Ikeja area. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency is preparing for an emergency evacuation at the old block 3 section of the barracks. A statement from the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA mentioned that parts of the structure were assessed and found to be in a dangerous state, prompting the need for immediate evacuation to prevent any harm.
The response team is set to evacuate the building and adjacent structures promptly to safeguard lives and property. The decision for a preemptive demolition was made due to the unsafe conditions of the building. The public is advised to stay calm and avoid spreading misinformation on social media while the situation is being closely monitored and managed.
It was previously announced that the police were conducting renovations on some police barracks in Lagos State in collaboration with the government.
