The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has issued a directive to freeze all state-owned bank accounts with immediate effect. The freeze will remain in place until further notice, as stated in a release by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua. Commercial banks and heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been instructed to adhere promptly to the order. Failure to comply with the directive will result in severe consequences, including penalties for those who defy it.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that no funds should be withdrawn from government accounts until further instructions are given. He stressed the importance of full and swift compliance from all relevant parties. Investigations and reconciliations will be conducted, and appropriate actions will be taken accordingly.
Furthermore, the governor has mandated the reversion of the Ministry of Roads and Bridges to its original name, the Ministry of Works, a change made during the previous administration. He emphasized the need for this adjustment to be promptly and officially executed, citing the absence of bridge construction during the prior administration.
Governor Okpebholo expressed intentions to review further decisions made by the previous administration and make choices that align with the state’s best interests in the days ahead. The statement concluded with a commitment to ensuring actions that benefit the state.
