Kaduna plans planting 10 million trees to tackle climate change

The Kaduna State Government has set a target to plant 10 million trees within four years as part of its afforestation program. The goal is to address climate change impacts and safeguard the environment. So far, 1.7 million trees have been planted with plans to double this number in the coming year.

The Commissioner of Environment, Abubakar Buba, emphasized the importance of trees in absorbing carbon dioxide to combat climate change. He urged residents to not only plant trees but also nurture them, extending the greenery beyond urban areas to suburbs and villages.

Acknowledging Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to a greener and cleaner Kaduna State, Buba praised the initiative. The government has also directed efforts towards drainage maintenance to prevent flooding during the rainy season.

Furthermore, the state government has allocated more funds to environmental projects in the 2025 budget, with assurances of effective implementation. These efforts aim to enhance the state’s environmental sustainability and resilience.
