The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives emphasized the importance of integrating the African Union’s Agenda 2063 into Nigeria’s development strategy. During the Conference of Speakers of African Parliaments in South Africa, he advocated for Nigeria to lead by example in adopting the ambitious framework that aims to transform Africa into a global powerhouse. The Agenda 2063 outlines key aspirations focused on economic growth, social inclusion, sustainable development, and good governance.
Nigeria’s efforts align with the AU Agenda 2063, as it focuses on economic diversification, youth empowerment, and good governance. The Deputy Speaker highlighted ongoing initiatives to diversify the economy away from oil dependency through investments in agriculture, technology, and renewable energy. Emphasizing the importance of infrastructure for economic development, he called for increased investment in critical sectors like transportation, energy, and digital connectivity.
Furthermore, the Deputy Speaker stressed the significance of empowering Nigeria’s youth through education and job creation, in line with the Agenda’s focus on people-driven development. He urged African states to review existing policies to support the continent’s development agenda and emphasized the importance of regional integration and partnerships to enhance trade and economic collaboration.
Additionally, he underscored the role of technology and innovation in Africa’s competitiveness, calling for policies that support research and development. By integrating the AU Agenda 2063 into its national framework, Nigeria can reinforce its leadership role on the continent and contribute meaningfully to Africa’s prosperity and unity. The Deputy Speaker highlighted the need for collaborative efforts among all stakeholders to achieve Agenda 2063’s ambitious goals and pave the way for sustainable development and shared prosperity in Africa.
