The governor of Kano State has announced the establishment of a modern clinic dedicated to providing free and comprehensive care for individuals with sickle cell disease. The state’s Commissioner for Health revealed this during an event in Kumbotso Local Government Area. The specialized clinic, situated at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, will offer various services including diagnosis, consultations, medication, and surgical procedures for sickle cell patients. This initiative is part of the governor’s commitment to addressing sickle cell anemia within the state. Additionally, a premarital health screening bill has been signed into law to prevent marriages between couples with similar genotypes, aiming to reduce the incidence of sickle cell disease. This healthcare reform aligns with the governor’s promise to provide care, support, and hope for those affected by the disease in Kano State.
