Kebbi signs ₦64bn contract to revive road project

The government of Kebbi State has recently signed a significant contract worth ₦64 billion for the construction of the Koko-Zuru-Mahuta-Dabai road within the Zuru Emirate. This contract involves three well-known construction companies: GNIC, ZBCC, and Habib Engineering Company, each responsible for specific sections of the road as outlined in the contract terms.

During the ceremony held at the Kebbi State Ministry of Works, the Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Abdullahi Faruk, expressed appreciation to Governor Nasir Idris for the milestone achievement. He emphasized the project’s importance in addressing transportation challenges, promoting economic activities, and facilitating international trade by linking Birnin Kebbi to neighboring states and countries.

The commissioner urged the contractors to adhere strictly to the project specifications and maintain transparent communication with the ministry’s supervising engineers. He also highlighted the government’s commitment to timely payments for satisfactory work, citing Governor Idris’s track record of honoring contractual obligations.

The contract breakdown includes GNIC handling the Koko/Marafa section (37 km) for ₦27 billion, Habib Engineering managing Mahuta/GGC (25 km) for ₦18 billion, and ZBCC overseeing Habai/Mahuta GGC (25 km) for ₦18 billion. Representatives from the contracting firms pledged to deliver high-quality work within the stipulated 18-month timeframe, demonstrating their dedication to meeting project standards and deadlines.

In conclusion, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Engineer Sa’ad Musa, lauded Governor Idris as the “Saviour of Zuru Emirate” for his unwavering commitment to addressing the region’s challenges. The project to construct the Koko-Zuru road, initially a federal initiative, was taken over by the Kebbi State Government due to delays and its significant economic impact on the state and the nation.
