Kenyan firm denies stopping late Nigerian TikToker from travelling home

A subcontractor for a popular social media platform has refuted allegations that it prevented a Nigerian content moderator from traveling to Nigeria before her unfortunate demise.

Reports revealed that the moderator’s body was found in her apartment several days after her passing, sparking discussions about her denied request for leave.

The company clarified that they did not reject the moderator’s leave request, despite claims from her colleagues that she was keen on returning to Nigeria due to fatigue.

Although entitled to an annual return ticket, it was suggested that she was refused leave over concerns about her work permit, a notion dismissed by the subcontractor as unfounded.

The moderator, who had relocated to Kenya for work, was mourned by technology workers during a vigil, where concerns about working conditions were raised.

Allegations surfaced that numerous Nigerians working under the subcontractor lacked valid work permits, hindering their ability to travel home despite having benefits for annual return tickets.

Efforts to reach out to the appropriate authorities for comments on the incident were reportedly unsuccessful, highlighting a trend of Nigerians facing tragic circumstances while in Kenya.

Similar incidents involving Nigerian nationals have occurred in the past, underscoring ongoing concerns about the welfare and safety of Nigerians living and working in Kenya.
