Two individuals, Utubor Uchenna and Felix Ebama, have admitted to extorting a ransom of N10 million during their recent kidnapping operation before being apprehended. The suspects disclosed details of their criminal activities, including the identification of properties used to hold their captives. Uchenna and Ebama, part of a larger criminal group, confessed to their involvement in multiple kidnapping incidents in Edo Central.
Uchenna shared that their last victim was chosen due to the expensive vehicle he owned. The victim, along with a companion, was taken captive and released after the ransom was paid. The duo acknowledged their participation in various kidnapping schemes.
In response to escalating criminal activities, the state government initiated a campaign to demolish properties associated with kidnapping. The demolitions occurred in Illeh, Esan West Local Government Area, and Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area. The Governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Akhere Paul, supervised the operation, citing the anti-kidnapping legislation recently enacted by the state.
The operation aimed to deter criminal behavior and emphasize repercussions for facilitating kidnappings. Landlords were urged to conduct thorough background checks on potential tenants to prevent illicit activities on their premises. The government emphasized its commitment to eradicating criminal elements from the state through continued demolition efforts.
SP Michael Anetor, the Commander of the Special Task Force, expressed confidence that such actions would dissuade others from participating in kidnapping activities. He encouraged residents to report any suspicious behavior to law enforcement agencies or task force members to collectively ensure a safer environment for all in Edo.
