A recent tragic event unfolded as the newly appointed Divisional Police Officer in Agbarho Division, Delta State, along with some of his team members, were ambushed and fatally shot by a kidnap syndicate. The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, shortly after the DPO, identified as CSP Jega, assumed his role at the Agbarho Divisional Command.
Reports indicate that the DPO, alongside the DPO of Orerokpe division, CSP Paul, led a joint operation to rescue a kidnapped individual around 1 am on Monday. Unfortunately, they were met with gunfire by the kidnappers near the Agbarho rail station during the rescue attempt. Tragically, the new DPO and some officers lost their lives in the shootout, while the Orerokpe DPO narrowly escaped death and is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
In response to the heartbreaking incident, a Warri-based activist expressed sorrow, emphasizing the dedication of the fallen officers. The activist extended condolences to the Nigeria Police Force, the CP Delta State Command, the families, and friends of the deceased officers. The loss of these brave officers in the line of duty highlights the dangers they face daily to protect society.
The police public relations officer for Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the ambush, revealing that only the DPO lost his life in the tragic event.
