Kwara court jails six for internet fraud, impersonation

A recent court ruling by Justices Haleema Saleeman and Mahmud Abdulgafar of the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin has led to the conviction and sentencing of six individuals for various fraud-related offenses. The convictions were part of a case prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate.

The convicted individuals are Akingbehin Temitope Oluwaseyi, Ajayi Elijah Olaoluwa, Samson Babatunde Ilesanmi, Quadri Olamilekan Lamidi, Kolawole Kehinde Moses, and Olatunji Elijah Olabisi. They faced charges such as retention of criminal proceeds, cheating, impersonation, and internet fraud.

Each of the defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charges. The prosecuting counsel presented evidence, including extra-judicial statements and items recovered during arrests. Following the review of the cases, the judges handed down sentences ranging from fines to imprisonment, along with the forfeiture of items used in committing the crimes to the government.

The sentences included fines, imprisonment terms, and the forfeiture of phones, cars, and various amounts of money to the federal government. The judges ensured that the sentences run concurrently for efficiency in upholding justice.
