Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, announced on Friday that young winger Lamine Yamal is set to make a return after a three-week injury layoff for the upcoming match against Las Palmas in La Liga. The 17-year-old had been out with an ankle injury since early November, during which Barcelona struggled, earning just one point in the two league games he missed. Flick confirmed Yamal’s readiness to play, although the decision on whether he will start is yet to be made.
Yamal, who has scored six goals and provided eight assists in 16 appearances this season, is a crucial player for Barcelona, as evident from their winless record in the three matches he did not start in La Liga. Despite leading the table with a four-point margin over Real Madrid, Barcelona has faced challenges in Yamal’s absence.
Furthermore, Flick provided an update on Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo, who is close to returning from an injury sustained during the Copa America. Araujo underwent surgery in July for a hamstring injury and is on the path to recovery.
The team recently secured a 3-0 Champions League victory against Brest, where Yamal was unable to make the squad but was present to support from the stands.
