Lagos Bolt drivers reject 50% fare cut, plan protest

The Lagos app-based drivers, represented by the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria, are voicing their strong opposition to Bolt’s recent 50% fare reduction. They argue that this reduction is exacerbating their financial challenges. In response, the union is organizing a protest to advocate for fairer treatment and improved working conditions within the ride-hailing sector.

Members of AUATON express their concerns over the significant decrease in earnings, which has negatively impacted their ability to make a living. The union’s spokesperson in Lagos State, Steven Iwindoye, emphasized the need for drivers to unite and take a stand against continuous price cuts and unfair treatment by companies like Bolt, Uber, Indrive, and Rida.

Iwindoye called on all drivers, regardless of union affiliation, to join the protest and show solidarity. He highlighted the importance of drivers standing together to address the challenges they face collectively. The upcoming protest aims to rally drivers to demand better working conditions and fair treatment from ride-hailing companies.

Drivers are encouraged to express their dissatisfaction by contacting Bolt and expressing their concerns about the recent fare reduction. The union believes that through unity and collective action, drivers can bring about positive change in the industry. The protest presents an opportunity for drivers to set aside their differences and work towards a common goal of improving their circumstances within the ride-hailing sector.
