The Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an interim order preventing the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria from demanding N60 billion from Facebook Nigeria Operations Limited. The court granted the order following an application filed by Facebook through its legal representative.
The court order restrains the Council from enforcing a notice of violation issued to Facebook and also prohibits the Council from initiating criminal proceedings against Facebook. Facebook argued that the Council’s actions were unconstitutional, unlawful, and beyond its legal authority.
The court scheduled a hearing for February 2025 to further address the matter. Facebook emphasized the need for the court to oversee the case and prevent any abusive legal actions by the Council.
