Lagos hospital probes A’Ibom CP’s death

The Chief Medical Director of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, has announced the formation of a panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara.

Ayilara passed away following prostate cancer surgery at LASUTH, sparking controversy and allegations of mismanagement. However, Prof. Fabamwo defended the hospital in an interview, stating that there was no evidence of negligence.

The State Commissioner of Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has instructed LASUTH to establish a committee to probe the issues raised by Ayilara’s death. Prof. Fabamwo emphasized that Ayilara’s death was not due to mismanagement and assured that the hospital is cooperating with the inquiry.

LASUTH’s investigation, overseen by the Ministry of Health and Prof. Akin Abayomi, aims to provide clarity on the circumstances leading to Ayilara’s passing. The hospital will issue an official statement after the panel presents its findings next week.
