The Lagos State Government has announced an increase in boarding fees in its model colleges to improve the welfare of the students. According to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the current boarding fee of N35,000 is no longer realistic, leading to the approval of a new fee of N100,000 starting from the 2024/2025 session. The government emphasized that the decision was made to prioritize the well-being of the children in public schools. The boarding fees cover expenses such as feeding, janitorial services, and other miscellaneous costs related to hostel accommodation. The government highlighted that despite the fee increase, they still provide free education, infrastructure, tuition, technology support, security, and payment of examination fees for the students. The Ministry also stressed the importance of nutritious food for the students’ physical and mental well-being. Parents are urged to cooperate and understand the necessity of the fee adjustment for the benefit of the children.
