In a recent ruling, a lecturer at a local college has been sentenced to life imprisonment for a rape case involving a student. The judge found the lecturer guilty beyond a reasonable doubt based on the evidence presented during the trial. The incident occurred at the college premises, and the survivor’s testimony was supported by other witnesses, including a lawyer and an Investigation Police Officer.
The survivor’s detailed testimony described how the lecturer coerced and assaulted her, leading to the conviction. Despite the lecturer’s denial and defense during the trial, the court determined his guilt and handed down the sentence of life imprisonment as per the Criminal Law of Lagos State. The judge emphasized the abuse of trust and authority by the lecturer, who held a position of influence over the victim as a part-time lecturer at the institution. The lecturer’s name will also be added to the sex offender register in Lagos State.
